Starry night ribbon ornaments

DIY project

Usher in the holidays by making elevated star ornaments from our metallic ribbon. The flecks of gold and silver woven into the ribbon add a gorgeous luster to each start. Make multiple to hang on your tree, use as gift toppers or give as gifts themselves (they are that special!).

You’ll need:

  • Metallic ribbon

  • Fray check or watered down glue

  • Needle and thread

  • Scissors

How-to:

    1. Cut a piece of Metallic Ribbon measuring 45”. Add fray check or watered down white glue to each end in order to prevent fraying.

    2. Cut a piece of strong thread measuring 8” long, thread it through a needle, and set aside.

    3. Measure 1 1/2” from the end of the metallic ribbon and begin folding it back and forth on itself--accordion style--until you have 14 loops. You’ll want to make sure they are the same length each time you fold by holding the stack of loops together in one hand.

    4. Starting on one corner of the ribbon stack, close to the edge or fold, insert the threaded needle through two layers of ribbon and secure with a backstitch, leaving a 3” tail.

    5. Gently push the needle through the top of each loop until the full stack is connected. Leave the thread untied.

    6. Thread needle with another length of 8” thread and repeat steps 4 and 5 on the other corner.

    7. Once all the way through the stack, tie the ends of one set of the threads together, pulling the loops tight to knot. Do the same thing on the other side: tie the ends of the second set of threads together and form a knot.

    8. Form the ribbon loops into a circle, arranging them evenly by pinching in the center and top of each loop.

    9. Stitch a length of gold thread through the top of one loop and knot to hang.
